Revelation 19:11-16 And I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse, and He who sat on it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and wages war. His eyes are a flame of fire, and on His head are many diadems; and He has a name written on Him which no one knows except Himself. He is clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God. And the armies which are in heaven, clothed in fine linen, white and clean, were following Him on white horses. From His mouth comes a sharp sword, so that with it He may strike down the nations, and He will rule them with a rod of iron; and He treads the wine press of the fierce wrath of God, the Almighty. And on His robe and on His thigh He has a name written, “KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.”
What a powerful chapter to read today and I wish I could piece it over many days so that we could savor its richness but I do believe the key to today's chapter for me is the revelation of the person above.
In all the imagery of this prophecy, who is this person who has four names and is even referred to as The Word of God?
I'm sure you knew if before me that this person revealed is none other than our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. What is with the description of Him you might wonder and here is something to chew on.
The white horse is the symbol of conquest and triumph (Rev. 6:2). His eyes are described as flame of a fire meaning bright, piercing, all seeing, flashing light, and also a consuming fire of the wicked. The diadems show that He has all kingly authority as He is King of Kings.
The blood on His robe is his own blood through which He conquers His enemies and that of his enemies (Isa. 63:3). The armies are the saints, purified, holy, a conquering host, led by Christ to victory. The sharp sword in His mouth is the word of God by which Christ's conquests are won.
His rule is not of tyranny but is meant to imply a firm and lasting rule (Psa. 2:9). There are 4 names He is referred by which are Faithful and True, a name which no one knows but Him, The Word of God and King of Kings and Lord of Lords.
Today I considered the fact that the world does not understand us because we were once a big part of them and suddenly not. We were once sinners and now are being called sanctified. Jesus said, what is impossible with man is made possible with God (Luk. 18:27)!
We who are called by Him and redeemed in His blood are called not to lie with the world and partake of it lusting but to serve as witnesses of this great God who saved us from the pits of hell.
Wake up children of God and remember who saved us, what He saved us from and start preparing for the marriage of our Lamb! If you are not saved by the grace of God, I pray that you will invite this King of Kings into your life as your savior today and join His army of saints.
