The Great Accusation

Revelation 12:10-12 Then I heard a loud voice in heaven, saying, “Now the salvation, and the power, and the kingdom of our God and the authority of His Christ have come, for the accuser of our brethren has been thrown down, he who accuses them before our God day and night. “And they overcame him because of the blood of the Lamb and because of the word of their testimony, and they did not love their life even when faced with death. “For this reason, rejoice, O heavens and you who dwell in them. Woe to the earth and the sea, because the devil has come down to you, having great wrath, knowing that he has only a short time.”

The mysteries of the book of Revelation get more mysterious as we proceed further and today's chapter talks of a woman in labour, the child born who will rule with an iron scepter, the dragon with many heads waiting to devour the child and more.

In all this heavenly imagery, I found this song most interesting as it seems to sum up the entire chapter in its entirety. After the battle with the dragon by Michael and his angels, the dragon was not strong enough and was sent down to earth because there was no place for him and his fallen angels in heaven.

The question that first comes to mind is why would God send the dragon or Satan to earth to torment us and is there any message from God to us today through this terrible event?

Before we get further, we must keep in mind that there are many interpretations of this prophecy and as long as we rely on God to interpret it to us and for us, we are on safe ground but the moment we try to demystify these words in our own ability, we end up with all kinds of conclusions that would lead us astray.

This entire event seems to take place before man was brought into the world right up to the point where judgment takes place. In Genesis 1:2, the earth is described as being formless, void and darkness was over the surface of the deep. Darkness is translated from the Greek word 'chashak' which is the dark; hence (literally) darkness; figuratively, misery, destruction, death, ignorance, sorrow, wickedness -- dark(-ness), night, obscurity.

Therefore we understand that Satan and his fallen angels were placed on the earth before man was created. Furthermore Satan is referred to as the accuser and he fits that name right. He is constantly trying to trip us in our walk and will be the one to accuse us on judgment day before God.

However, we who have been washed in the blood of the Lamb of God, Jesus Christ, are no longer condemned by the accuser or her accusations because we have been washed clean. Those who are not washed clean still stand condemned in God's eyes and will face the horrid consequences.

Today's passage is a clear reminder to us that we Satan lives and is constantly on our heels trying to fault us but we who can call on the name of the Lord of Lords, Jesus Christ, will be saved from the devil and have overcome through His blood alone.

Are you washed in the blood of the Lamb? Are you saved from the wrath of God and the temptations of the devil?

In His Loving Service,

1 Peter 5:8 Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.
