Rags to Riches - A Spiritual Journey

Genesis 41:12,15,16,28-31,39-41  “Now a Hebrew youth was with us there, a servant of the captain of the bodyguard, and we related them to him, and he interpreted our dreams for us. To each one he interpreted according to his own dream... Pharaoh said to Joseph, “I have had a dream, but no one can interpret it; and I have heard it said about you, that when you hear a dream you can interpret it.” Joseph then answered Pharaoh, saying, “It is not in me; God will give Pharaoh a favorable answer”... “It is as I have spoken to Pharaoh: God has shown to Pharaoh what He is about to do. “Behold, seven years of great abundance are coming in all the land of Egypt; and after them seven years of famine will come, and all the abundance will be forgotten in the land of Egypt, and the famine will ravage the land. “So the abundance will be unknown in the land because of that subsequent famine; for it will be very severe... So Pharaoh said to Joseph, “Since God has informed you of all this, there is no one so discerning and wise as you are. “You shall be over my house, and according to your command all my people shall do homage; only in the throne I will be greater than you.” Pharaoh said to Joseph, “See, I have set you over all the land of Egypt.”

Talk about a windfall gain and Joseph comes to mind. From the dark pit of a dungeon to the throne of Egypt, Joseph saw it all happen in a couple hours!

When such miraculous events are reported, it seems easy for us to scoff at them as just fables and ignore them but one has to remember that this same story is in the Bible, the Torah and the Quran with slight modifications.

What is God speaking to us through the life of Joseph and is there such hope for us too?

Joseph was not born into a royalty, cheated of it and brought back into it. He was born a Hebrew, an outsider to the Egyptians, was raised as a shepherd, sold into slavery to the Ishmaelites, sold to an Egyptian and finally is set to rule Egypt as 2nd in charge after the Pharaoh himself.

The life story of Joseph may not seem that of most Christians you and I meet in the physical world but it is in a spiritual sense.

When we believe in Jesus Christ as our only Lord and Savior, we are 'reborn' into a new being, filled with God's Holy Spirit and used for His glory.

This transformation is instant and lasts an eternity. God takes our broken, useless bodies and transforms it into one that brings Him all glory and honor.

In worldly terms, we may not gain sudden riches and honor but in spiritual terms we are rich for the creator of the world now graces us with His loving presence and promises us eternity in His presence, a reward that is beyond any other.

Are you weary and heavy laden with the troubles of this life? Do you feel like you are in the pits of life's dungeons? Call on Jesus right now and ask Him into your life and experience the joy of the Lord that will fill your heart, mind and soul.

I pray today that you and I will experience God's transforming love like Joseph did and that we will live to give Jesus glory as He carries us on the wings of salvation to an eternity in His presence.

In His Loving Service,

Isaiah 40:31 But those who trust in the LORD will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint.
