Revelation 21:5:8 And He who sits on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new.” And He said, “Write, for these words are faithful and true.” Then He said to me, “It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give to the one who thirsts from the spring of the water of life without cost. “He who overcomes will inherit these things, and I will be his God and he will be My son. “But for the cowardly and unbelieving and abominable and murderers and immoral persons and sorcerers and idolaters and all liars, their part will be in the lake that burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.”
The new heaven and earth is shown to John and he describes it as a place that be fitting for God to reside in. Resplendent in every sense and bearing the name of God in every inch.
The questions that comes to mind are why would God want to make all things new and how could there be no more death or pain here when we know that our bodies grow old naturally and die?
Genesis 1:2-4 states 'The earth was formless and void, and darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was moving over the surface of the waters. God said “Let there be light”; and there was light. God saw that the light was good; and God separated the light from the darkness'.
When we consider the Hebrew translation of this passage, we understand that this darkness was a figurative word for misery, destruction, death, ignorance, sorrow or wickedness and we know that Satan and his fallen angels are being referred to here.
God commands light and light is introduced but we have to remember here that this light is not the same as the sun, moon and stars in day four. This light was also referred to in John 1:4-5 which states 'In Him was life, and the life was the Light of men. The Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it'. This light is Jesus and God introduced Jesus into the earth to separate sin from life.
The reason for the new heaven and earth is that this world has been in-dwelt by Satan and his adversaries and therefore we as residents of this world are naturally drawn to him. However, Jesus who is the Light of the world and in whom there is no darkness calls us out of darkness into His light so that we may live in His glory.
We live with the sad reality of pain, suffering and death because we live in Satan's dominion and that is all he will offer us. However, in Christ, we will no longer see death and suffering and therefore the new heaven and new earth is established so that we might live glorifying Him alone.
Have you got your name inscribed in the book of life and are you living for the glory of God? Are you my brother or sister in Christ with whom I hope to share eternity with?
2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.
