Is Life More Than Challenging Situations?

Genesis 44:1,2,4,5,9-13,16-17 Then he commanded his house steward, saying, “Fill the men’s sacks with food, as much as they can carry, and put each man’s money in the mouth of his sack. “Put my cup, the silver cup, in the mouth of the sack of the youngest, and his money for the grain.” And he did as Joseph had told him... They had just gone out of the city, and were not far off, when Joseph said to his house steward, “Up, follow the men; and when you overtake them, say to them, ‘Why have you repaid evil for good? ‘Is not this the one from which my lord drinks and which he indeed uses for divination? You have done wrong in doing this.’”...  “With whomever of your servants it is found, let him die, and we also will be my lord’s slaves.” So he said, “Now let it also be according to your words; he with whom it is found shall be my slave, and the rest of you shall be innocent.” Then they hurried, each man lowered his sack to the ground, and each man opened his sack. He searched, beginning with the oldest and ending with the youngest, and the cup was found in Benjamin’s sack. Then they tore their clothes, and when each man loaded his donkey, they returned to the city... So Judah said, “What can we say to my lord? What can we speak? And how can we justify ourselves? God has found out the iniquity of your servants; behold, we are my lord’s slaves, both we and the one in whose possession the cup has been found.” But he said, “Far be it from me to do this. The man in whose possession the cup has been found, he shall be my slave; but as for you, go up in peace to your father.”

I'm not sure about you but I was hoping today's chapter would see the resolution of this great divide between the brothers.

Joseph's actions are deplorable because he had his cup placed in Benjamin's sack and then sent out his guards to catch Benjamin stealing.

What is God trying to teach us through Joseph's treachery?

Joseph was rescued from the dungeon and placed over all Egypt in authority by the Pharaoh because he was able to interpret Pharaoh's dream and was found worthy of overseeing Egypt.

This was not his natural nature but a gift from God. God ordained Joseph's every step and revealed through him about the upcoming famine and therefore grain was collected.

This famine's severity was so great that the faraway land of Canaan was impacted by it and that brought Joseph's brothers over to buy grain.

Can you appreciate what God has orchestrated through these seemingly unrelated events? It took all of this to bring out the truth about Joseph's past.

God is not in the business of placing bandages on wounds but instead is in the business of transforming lives because only He has the authority and the power to do so.

We look at situations in our lives and think they dictate us but God uses life to teach us His love and majesty over all. He seeks in us a repentant heart and offers to us reconciliation through the blood of His only son Jesus Christ, who was sinless and pure and was killed like a sacrificial lamb for our redemption.

Are you distraught by the situations in your life and the brokenness of the world around you or do you see your creator at work behind the scenes getting your attention in order to transform your life and bless you with His love?

In His Loving Service,

Romans 5:17 For if, through the transgression of the one individual, Death made use of the one individual to seize the sovereignty, all the more shall those who receive God's overflowing grace and gift of righteousness reign as kings in Life through the one individual, Jesus Christ.
