Controlling Destiny And Failing...

Leviticus 20:1-3,6-7,22-24,26 (ESV) The LORD spoke to Moses, saying, "Say to the people of Israel, Any one of the people of Israel or of the strangers who sojourn in Israel who gives any of his children to Molech shall surely be put to death. The people of the land shall stone him with stones. I myself will set my face against that man and will cut him off from among his people, because he has given one of his children to Molech, to make my sanctuary unclean and to profane my holy name... "If a person turns to mediums and necromancers, whoring after them, I will set my face against that person and will cut him off from among his people. Consecrate yourselves, therefore, and be holy, for I am the LORD your God... "You shall therefore keep all my statutes and all my rules and do them, that the land where I am bringing you to live may not vomit you out. And you shall not walk in the customs of the nation that I am driving out before you, for they did all these things, and therefore I detested them. But I have said to you, 'You shall inherit their land, and I will give it to you to possess, a land flowing with milk and honey.' I am the LORD your God, who has separated you from the peoples... You shall be holy to me, for I the LORD am holy and have separated you from the peoples, that you should be mine.

When I read this chapter, I thought I had already finished it because chapter 19 is very similar to this chapter in structure and content.

What is God speaking to us through this harsh message and what is the purpose of being so repetitive?

There are times since Genesis when God speaks ahead of what is to come but there are also times when God spoke to His people about the way they lived their lives.

It is an amazing contrast to see the same God who spoke the entire universe into existence now being so personal as to speaking into the lives of His own creation with such specificity.

God detests sin and when His own sins, He abhors it especially. The Israelites were God's chosen people and even after all He did for them, to see them go down the path of unrighteousness was unbearable to God.

Some of the Israelites in order to find favor in the eyes of the gods' of this world were sacrificing their own children and that is why God came down hard on them.

Some others sought the wisdom of mediums and sorcerers and this again was evidence of a people who put their faith in anything and anyone who would give them answers rather than waiting on God.

This is a challenge we face even today when we are more willing to put our faith in chance than to wait on God because we feel that we can get an answer in our timeframe versus waiting on God to respond to us.

Recently in Vancouver, we had riots after our hockey team lost the finals of the biggest hockey competition and some people decided to show their anger by setting cars alight and damaging public property and rioting.

It was a shock to everyone locally and globally because Canadians are generally known for their gentle character and this seems like an act of foreigners.

Questions have been asked and continue to be asked about what, how, why, etc. and fingers are being pointed at parents, the system, police, alcohol, mob mentality, etc. and eventually it will be a forgotten incident just like the mindless wars being fought, the heinous crimes committed, etc.

We as a race are control seekers and have been continuously trying to control life but the reality is that we have little or no control because we are not in control.

From birth to death, the rising of the sun to the setting moon, from the winds of the air to the water currents in the sea, we have little or no say in how things pan out but we have one who has created it all and sustains it all and we are simply called to submit our will and our lives to His total control.

God the Father has provided all that we need and far, far more and has given us our lifetimes to submit our will to Him by accepting the sacrifice of His son Jesus Christ whose death paid for our sins.

Are we willing to relinquish the control of our lives and destinies to the only one who is able or are we going to die fruitlessly trying?

Jesus awaits our submission to His leading and has provided a way for us to reconcile with His father and calls us right now to stop trying and permit Him to direct our lives for His glory.

I pray today that you and I will come to personally know this great and glorious God who loves us so dearly and submits our will and lives for His glory.

In His Loving Service,

ServantBoy

2 Corinthians 5:1-5 (ESV) For we know that if the tent that is our earthly home is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. For in this tent we groan, longing to put on our heavenly dwelling, if indeed by putting it on we may not be found naked. For while we are still in this tent, we groan, being burdened—not that we would be unclothed, but that we would be further clothed, so that what is mortal may be swallowed up by life. He who has prepared us for this very thing is God, who has given us the Spirit as a guarantee.
